Vivica Anjanetta Fox (born

1964) is an American
film and
television actress.
Biography
Early life
Fox, an actress of
African-American and
Native American descent, who was born in
South Bend, Indiana, the daughter of Everlyena, a pharmaceutical technician, and William Fox, a private school administrator. She is a graduate of
Arlington High School in
Indianapolis, Indiana and
Golden West College with an Associate Art degree in Social Sciences.
Acting career
Fox moved to California to attend
Golden West College. While in California she started acting professionally, first on
soap operas such as
Generations,
Days of Our Lives and
The Young and the Restless. She was cast as Emily Franklin in the pilot episode of
ABC's
Living Dolls a
sitcom and
spinoff of
Who's the Boss? but was replaced with
Halle Berry for the remaining episodes. In another early role saw her as
Patti LaBelle's fashion designer daughter, Charisse Chamberlain, on the
NBC TV series
Out All Night. She also appeared as Jazz's sister on the hit show
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She got her big break in film in the 1996 movies
Independence Day and
Set It Off. From there, she was cast in many other films and earned critical acclaim for her portrayal of
Maxine in the
1997 motion picture
Soul Food, which netted her
MTV Movie Award and
NAACP Image Award nominations. In 2000, she portrayed Dr. Lillian Price during the first season of the
CBS medical drama
City of Angels.
Fox also played roles in
Idle Hands,
Why Do Fools Fall In Love,
Teaching Mrs. Tingle,
Two Can Play That Game and
Juwanna Mann before landing the role of
assassin Vernita Green in the
2003 Quentin Tarantino vehicle,
Kill Bill. Fox has also tried her hand at voice acting, providing her voice for roles in the television cartoons
Ozzy & Drix and
Kim Possible. In 2004, Fox was in an episode of
Punk'd where her pregnant friend
Tichina Arnold pretended to go into labor, but they became angry when a paramedic appeared to care more about taking pictures than delivering the baby.
From 2004 to 2006 Fox starred in the drama series,
Missing on the
Lifetime Television Network with
Caterina Scorsone and
Mark Consuelos. Upon her duration on the series, she was also one of the show's co-executive producers. Fox participated in the third season of ABC's hit television show,
Dancing with the Stars, she was voted off after the fourth week. In September 2007, she appeared in the sixth season of HBO’s
Curb Your Enthusiasm as a mother of a family displaced by a hurricane and taken in by
Larry and
Cheryl.
Personal life
In December 1998, Fox married singer Christopher Harvest (aka Sixx-Nine) whom she later
divorced in June 2002. Fox's relationship with the rapper
50 Cent earned her playful nods from
Missy Elliott in her song "I'm Really Hot",
The Game in "
Dreams", and from
50 Cent himself in "Get In My Car". She was also mentioned in
Game's diss song
300 Bars and Runnin' which dissed 50 Cent.
On
March 20,
2007, Fox was arrested for
DUI. At 10:57 PM on the
101 Freeway in the
San Fernando Valley, Vivica reportedly passed a marked police car while going 80 mph. She was taken to
Van Nuys jail where she submitted to two breathalyzer tests which were over the 0.08 legal limit according to
California Highway Patrol (CHP) spokesman Leland Tang.
